Wednesday the 6th of June saw Reload Media Managing Director, Craig Somerville, flying to Melbourne to participate in the city’s most recent #Shopifymeetup, presented by Disco Labs and The Working Party. As always, it was a fantastic event with over two hundred Shopify merchants and partners in attendance.
Joining Craig on the panel was Ted Shelton of Snapchat and past Brisbane Shopify meetup guest speaker, Belinda Sharpin of Honey Birdette. For those who were unable to attend the event, here are some of our key takeaways:
First up was Ted Shelton who spoke on how Snapchat is working with other brands to monetise through ecommerce. He explained that Snapchat has 191 million daily active users across the world and is a great platform to advertise on for those businesses wishing to reach millenials.

This can be done by utilising ‘Snap ads’ which encourage immediate user engagement. For example, swiping up on an ad can take a user directly to a website. Now with custom audiences, include/exclude audiences and their very own ‘snap pixel’ that allows you to track users over their whole device, Snapchat continues to develop exciting improvements in their marketing capabilities across the platform.
Next up was Belinda who once again delivered her thoughts on how to get ecommerce right in 2018. Honey Birdette is a great Shopify success story and Belinda was happy to share some of the ways they increased their online sales via the use of Influencer marketing and how partnering with Reload and The Working Party helped them to continue to accomplish their digital goals. Suffice to say, every merchant in the room was listening intently and excited by the possibilities a Shopify store can offer a business.
Craig rounded out the evening with his presentation on ‘Marketing Your Shopify Store’. Within this he covered topics such as the best way to SEO a Shopify site and how to make digital spend budgets perform, regardless of their size. He concluded with five of his top tips that Shopify merchants could implement when marketing their store. These were:
- Mapping the Customer Journey
- Improving and Incorporating Aspects of the Instore Experience
- Setting up Google Merchant Center
- Utilising Remarketing
- Creating Real-Time Reporting Dashboards

On behalf of Reload we’d like to once again thank Disco Labs and The Working Party for inviting Craig to speak at the event. We encourage anyone in Melbourne who may already have, or be considering starting a Shopify store to attend the next meetup as there are always plenty of great insights to take away.
